AFCAT, the Air Force Common Admission Test is an entrance examination conducted by the IAF. The Indian Air Force for recruiting candidates for various branches of the Air Force. This exam is held twice a year. Both males and females can join the Indian Air Force if they wish to join IAF. AFCAT to select candidates for two posts of Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties for technical and non-technical.

Candidates are selected by their performance in online exams and AFSB interview. The candidate’s knowledge of, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, General Awareness Reasoning, and Military Aptitude. The AFCAT selection process for departments like Technical Branch, Flying Branch, and Ground Duty Branch. This AFCAT exam is an essential exam for those who aim to have a career in the Indian Air Force. The AFCAT exam is conducted in two phases:

  1. Online Exam

  2. Interview round

Candidates are selected by the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB). Candidates have to appear for both Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) and AFCAT if they are willing to join the ground duties in the technical branch.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. IAF Nationality: The aspirant should be a citizen of India.

  2. Age limit: Flying branch 20 years to 24 years and ground duty (technical/non-technical): 20 years to 26 years.

Educational Qualification

  1. Flying branch: Candidate has passed class 12 with a minimum of 60% in subjects Maths and Physics Graduated with a minimum of 60% in any discipline Or, Completed BE/B. Tech with 60% or equivalent and, Cleared Sections A and B with a minimum of 60% of Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) from a recognized university Aeronautical Society of India.

  2. Ground Duty (Technical): Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics): Candidate has passed class 12th with a minimum of 60% in subjects Maths and Physics. 4 Years’ degree in Engineering/Technology with a min of 60%. and, Cleared Sections A and B with a min of 60%of the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognized university.

  3. Medical clearance: The candidate should be Medically and physically fit to take the exam.

For Flying Branch: Aspirants must have appeared in Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS).

IAF Exam Syllabus

General Awareness: International current affairs, history, culture, defense,  sports, geography, environment, culture, defense, art and culture, politics, civics, basic science. Numerical Ability: Simple interest, profit and loss, decimal fraction, simplification, average, ratio and proportion, probability, and percentage.

Verbal Ability In English: Comprehension, antonyms, vocabulary. Tenses, fill in the blanks, error detection, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms, vocabulary. Tenses and basic grammar.

Reasoning And Military Aptitude Test: Verbal skills and spatial ability, embedded figures, missing characters, set based on arrangements, data interpretation, embedded figures, missing characters, set based on arrangements, rotated blocks, hidden figures, and analogy.
